# Embroidery Digitizing Explained | $18.99, File Kept

What embroidery digitizing is, why every logo needs it, and why ours is $18.99 once per design with the file kept for reorders. Battle Born Clothing.

Digitizing turns your logo into a stitch file the embroidery machine can run. At Battle Born Clothing it is $18.99 once per design, standard 2-day, and we keep the file for every reorder.

## What digitizing is

A logo file is pixels or vector shapes. An embroidery machine needs stitches: where each needle drop goes, in what order, with which thread, at what density. A digitizer builds that file by hand in embroidery software. It is not an automatic conversion. Good digitizing is why small text reads cleanly and fills do not pucker.

## What we charge

| Item | Price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| New design | $18.99 once | Standard 2-day |
| Reorder, same design | $0 | We keep the file |
| Cap version of a chest logo | $18.99 once | Hat fronts are curved and smaller |
| 3D puff version | Quoted per design | Foam needs its own file |

## Why one logo may need two files

A left-chest logo on a polo is stitched flat. A hat front is curved, stitched on a cap frame and usually smaller. The same artwork often needs a separate cap file so it sits right and stays readable. We will tell you if your job needs one.

## What makes digitizing go well

- Send vector art (AI, EPS, PDF, SVG) when you have it.
- Tell us the Pantone or thread colors you want, or let us match.
- Simplify tiny details. Text under about a quarter inch tall struggles in thread.
- Tell us the item. Fleece, pique and caps each digitize a little differently.

## Stitch count and price

Digitizing sets the stitch count, and stitch count sets the price over 6,000 stitches. Each extra 1,000 adds $2.00 per piece at 1-11 down to $0.50 at 80+. The count is on your proof before you approve.

| Quantity | 1-11 | 12-23 | 24-47 | 48-59 | 60-79 | 80+ |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Add per 1,000 | $2.00 | $1.50 | $1.00 | $1.00 | $0.60 | $0.50 |

## Can I bring my own file?

If you have a DST or similar file from another shop, send it. We will test it and tell you if it runs clean on our machines.

## What a good digitized file does

- Keeps small text open and readable
- Uses underlay so the stitches sit on top of the fabric instead of sinking in
- Sets stitch direction so fills catch the light evenly
- Orders the colors so the machine trims and changes thread as little as possible
- Pulls in edges to account for fabric stretch so outlines line up

None of that shows in the artwork file. It only shows when the logo is stitched. That is why a cheap automatic conversion often looks fine on screen and rough on a shirt.

## A worked example

You order 24 K500 polos and 24 Richardson 112 hats with the same logo. The polo logo is digitized flat for the chest; the hat logo gets its own cap file. Two files at $18.99 = $37.98, once. Next spring you reorder 48 hats: no digitizing charge, because we kept the cap file.

## Digitizing for different fabrics

The same logo stitches differently on different goods. Pique polos need enough underlay to keep the knit from showing through. Fleece and hoodies need a little more density and sometimes a light topping so the pile does not swallow thin lines. Soft shells are smooth and take detail well. Caps are curved and stitched from the center out on a cap frame, which is why a hat usually gets its own file. Tell us what the logo is going on and we will digitize for that item. If one design is going on four different garments, we tell you up front whether one file covers it or whether a second file is worth the $18.99.

## Questions
**Do I own the digitized file?** We keep it on file for your reorders. Ask if you need a copy.

**How long does digitizing take?** Standard is 2 business days, and it happens before your proof.
